  3.      The S7 register tells the modem how long to wait, or to 'keep  trying'
  4. to  establish connection (Carrier detect) with the remote device (modem  or
  5. fax). On some modems the default is 30 (seconds) on some 50. I recommend 90
  6. if you are having trouble. ATS7=90     or put S7=90 into your init or  dial
  7. string. Sometimes it isn't the wait time, but protocol negotiation that  is
  8. the trouble. Try AT&Q6 to turn off protocol negotiation.

  10.      The  modem  will keep trying for whatver time you set via S7,  so  you
  11. have to balance it to your preference.
